Mikes Thoughts

dipping into Sunday

Some days get the urge to write again. Like this need to bend the phone or Mac to some words. I always give in. I have no idea where a thing will go when I start. So I figure it’s best to just go. See where I go as I go. Not plan a thing or feel some need or an idea. Maybe an impulse or a song. Or nothing.

simplifying or not

One thing with writing is wanting some simplicity. Like writing is this reflection in some mirror. I’ve tried an app for that. Tried writing in dedicated journaling apps. They work nicely. What they don’t do is give me the desire to just journal. To write as I want. Instead I get abstracted with menus and fonts and stuff. None of that makes me write more. I also thought of using something else for writing the blog. Some other service or platform. What’s come to me is 11ty is as simple as I can make it. I don’t need enhancements and plugins. Extra gooey things or special themes or skins. I figure you come for the words. Not because I wrangle css.

So I just will keep this simple. For you and me. When or if you ever read here it will always be the words. Not some pretty looking graphics. I do like photos so every so often I do one.

I use netlify for this because it seems simple and the price is right. I get by easily on the free account. One little blog. One GitHub repo. Some help on iOS provided by the wonderful Working Copy app. It’s the glue on the iPhone really.

On to Sunday. Of course. I started this Saturday evening. I dunno why.

Sunday meanings

Finding my coffee space is nice. I really like this little spot. The Khmer girls are friendly and always welcoming. Coffee always good. And it’s Sunday which means only days until Kampot. Sitting here and watch the waitresses give away food to kids. The kids I see often doing aluminum recycling. They don’t live far from us but the life quality from there to our house is light years.

Some people say to not help the kids or others here. I help people with some money when I can. The appreciation for even 1k riel is palpable. That’s $0.25 to you and me.

Anyways let’s do a coffee slowdown. Writing and just letting the Sunday have whatever meaning it wants. I don’t feel day to day here has much. It just is.

Soon I’ll write on our Kampot adventures. Stay tuned. Right now it’s Siem Reap and a Sunday that takes its own pace.

See ya.
